| Clinton
is located on the shore of the Long Island Sound
halfway between New Haven and New London. As of
2001 the population was stated to be 13.109, covering
16.28 square miles. Clinton was originally settled
in 1663. The town of Killingworth was divided in
1838, at which time Clinton was named and achieved
independence.
Clinton's
harbor was once known predominantly for its industrial
shipbuilding. It is now known for popular recreational
facilities. Some of the towns points of interest
include;
Chamard
Vineyards - The vineyards spread across 40 acres
and is a classic New England winery. They offer
free tours of their state of the art cellar and
wine tastings.
John
A. Stanton Memorial - Built circa 1789-1791 by Adam
Stanton, who moved from Rhode Island during the
Revolutionary War. Today the house contains most
of the original furnishings and is used as a museum
of American antiques and illustrates both the use
of home and general store. Admission is free, they
welcome donations.
Opera
Theater of Connecticut - offers summer productions
of fully produced operas with orchestra.
Clinton
Parks & Recreation - Facilities include Annex
Field, Huskies Field, Heser's pond (no swimming
or boating) offers ice skating in the winter, and
Clinton Town beach. |
