| First Congregational
Church is the eighth oldest in the State, founded
in 1643 by the Reverend Henry Whitfield. Built in
1830 on the Guilford Green, this building is the third
meeting house and remains basically the same today.
The 108 year old steeple was rebuilt in 1939 after
the great New England hurricane caused the steeple
to tumble.
Today the church has
approximately 1,300 members, an overflowing church
school and a magnificent choir. |
